Let’s do a full review of your finances to make sure you’re on track for your future plans and using your money wisely in the present.

We’ll discuss retirement goals that make sense for you, then work backward to figure out what you need to do today to reach them. We’ll strategize on your investments, as well as your savings for short and medium-term goals like vacations, a down payment, or college savings. We’ll also optimize your day-to-day finances, like your monthly spending, loan/debt payments, and choosing the best employee benefits for you.

Comprehensive financial plans are advice-only - I’ll give you individualized advice on how and what to invest, and directions on how to do so. I don’t manage investments, rather, I’ll empower you to do it yourself in the most straightforward way possible.

Financial Plan Process

Introduction + Goal Setting

In our kick off meeting, we’ll review how your financial situation looks today, define your goals for the future, and discuss next steps in the process.

Cash Flow + Budgeting

In meeting two, we’ll use Monarch Money, to determine exactly how much money comes in and goes out each month. For most folks, it’s enlightening to know where your money goes each month! It allows us to better plan for retirement and medium-term goals.

Retirement Planning

After reviewing your current monthly cash flow, we’ll work on planning for retirement income. Our goal is to determine how much you’ll need in retirement to be comfortable, and make sure you have enough from your pension, Social Security, and investments to cover you.

Investment Planning

If you have taxable investments, we will devote a session to reviewing fund allocations, investment fees, and tax considerations. You’ll get customized advice and support on any adjustments to make.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Most of my clients are educators or former educators, but I regularly work with families where a spouse/partner works in another industry.

I have particular expertise in working with folks who have a pension or 403(b)/TDA as part of their employer benefits, but many of my clients come to me with 401(k)s as well. I am always happy to discuss fit in a consultation call!

  • I am a fiduciary, fee-only financial planner - my services are advice-only and I charge based on a flat-fee. I am ethically and legally obligated to work in your best interest. All payments come directly from clients - I don’t sell insurance products, earn commissions, or get referral bonuses for making recommendations. I do not receive commissions for any investments or financial products.

  • Yes, I provide high-level tax advice. I consider your tax rate and tax liability when creating financial plans, but specific tax advice should be discussed with a tax expert. I can provide referrals to tax professionals, but many of my clients are well-served by typical tax prep software.

  • I am an advice-only financial planner - I don’t manage assets, but I will help and advise you in managing them yourself. I will provide advice on a recommended asset allocation given your goals and financial situation, and I will make it very straightforward so you can manage your portfolio independently. I’m happy to help if you get stuck but I don’t log into your accounts or place trades on your behalf.

  • I generally believe in well-diversified, low-cost investments that give you exposure to US and global markets, and appropriately balance risk with stocks and bonds. I take a passive investing approach, by determining an appropriate asset allocation strategy and sticking with it over the long-term, versus picking stocks and buying and selling.

  • Insurance planning is an important part of the financial planning process! I will recommend coverage based on your needs, but I refer policy purchases out to an insurance broker I recommend. This is so that I can give you unbiased insurance advice.
